Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA) provide respiratory protection while in atmospheres considered to be Immediately Dangerous to Life & Health (IDLH). This may include confined and otherwise inhibited spaces, hazardous material spills, as well as a variety of First Responder activities. Typically, this includes using a facepiece, compressed air tank and regulator valve. Standard SCBA's are rated in length of service, usually 30, 45 and 60 minute versions. This value should be used only as a guideline, in that many users will, depending on conditions and exertion level, deplete the air supply before this time has elapsed. |
Also included in our offering are so-called Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EEBA). These units are intended to be used in the case of a sudden change from breathable air to a IDLH atmosphere, such as in the case of a ruptured pipe containing toxic gas. EEBA's provide either 5 or 10 minutes of breathable air to facilitate the quick exit to an area of safety. In no instance are they to be used to enter an IDLH area.
In summary, SCBAs provide a positive flow of breathing air that saves time and lives during chemical incidents and confined space rescue.
